  I’m in the middle of replacing the tie rod ends and rack boots on my Mk1A. I have the rack out of the car. Does anybody have any tips on getting the tie rod jam nuts off? Right now I’ve threaded a couple of other nuts on and am hold the tie rod with one wrench while trying to loosen the jam nut with another wrench. I’ve been kroiling it for a week, but still no luck.
  
  Is it ok to heat these parts?
  
  Any ideas appreciated!

  Yup, just heat the nut; not the rod.

  aren’t there both right and left handed threads on the tie rods??
