  Could someone tell me the torque specs on the rocker shaft standard bolts?
  I have the Rootes workshop manual and it has only 4 torque specs for the whole engine.
  For that matter does anyone know where to get a good shop manual for the Alpines
  with specs. Thanks.

  Didn’t see an answer to this so I guess you have already wrapped up your engine work. I have had similar trouble with torque settings for various fasteners in the Alpine and other LBCs. I have been using the table on this site when the manuals don’t help: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/universal/ut120.htm
