The pin in the hinge of my gas cap has partially come out, so before I do something to screw it up, I thought I better ask for any tips or experience with removing and replacing it. What tools did you use and what direction should it be moved? Your do’s and don’ts would be appreciated.

The pin itself is just a press fit in the hinge. Last time I took one apart I just used a small punch and carefully drove it out. Same going back together. If the pin is loose in your’s should pop right out and then you can either install a slightly larger one or knurl or oval one end of the one you have slightly to grab the housing and stay in place when tapped back in.

Thanks Mike. I’ll be tapping in March sometime. It’s about -13°F in the Great White North today, with no end in sight, so my garage time is on hold.
