If you choose to go to a heavier front sway bar, be sure to (at a minumum) reinforce the mounts. I was running a 1" bar at a hillclimb back in ’83 when one of the mounts pulled out in the middle of a corner sending me into a spin and a crash. The car was pretty badly wadded up as a result and took several years to rebuild.
I built a completely different swaybar setup afterwards which pivoted off from the frame. Now, I have a replacement crossmember with coilover suspension and integral swaybar which my son built for me.
