I had similar woes at first. However, I first meaured the hole and drilled them in the brackets. Then I removed much of the excess material – especially on the lower brackets cause they can catch when lowering the rad into place. After I was satisfied with the fit, I removed the radiator and put the fan on. I used to run a spacer, but now do not. Then I slid the radiator back in place. Clearance is tight but it fit.
Since then I had a catestophic event destroying my Fluidyne radiator. I have since replaced it with a Griffin Aluminum rad from Tiger Auto Service in Dayton Ohio. It is much thinner than the Griffin and easier to work with.
Hope my words are of help. If you want to talk – 404 378-1034.
